Goal of the Awards
The Honor Unit Award recognizes units that meet the basic requirements for standard operations and who use the best practices of management. An Honor Unit is one that has demonstrated exceptional qualities that merit replication by other PTAs.
The Outstanding Unit Award identifies and honors the PTA units that, when compared to all others in their unique environment and within their own special circumstances, are the most representative examples of a local unit which exemplifies the purposes and mission of PTA.
Who Should Apply?
Any local PTA unit in good standing with the Louisiana PTA may submit an application.
Deadline
Entries must be postmarked on or before February 1, 2008.
Formatting requirements for both awards:
1. Word processed or typed in black ink only.
2. Standard 12-point font or equivalent type.
3. Double-spaced with 1” margins all sides.
4. 8 ˝ x 11” white paper only, no colored paper; single-sided.
5. No unauthorized use of copyright materials.
Additional requirements for both awards:
6. Applications and all supporting materials should be placed in a 1 ˝” three-ring binder; no folders.
7. Information for the Outstanding Unit Award (Tab 5) and all supporting materials should be placed in the three-ring binder being submitted for the Honor Unit Award.
8. Page dividers (referred to as tabs) are to be clearly labeled.
9. Do not use sheet protectors.
Honor Unit Award Information
10. Copies of agenda’s and minutes should be for the current school year.
11. If your unit has not elected a nominating committee for the current year, attach minutes from the previous year.
12. If a blank, underlined space is provided for a write-in answer, a separate sheet is not needed.
13. Familiarize yourself with the application early in the year so that you can keep track of the requirements to qualify for this award as you accomplish them.
Notification
14. A letter will be sent to winning Honor Units following the LAPTA February board meeting.
15. Those units that complete and submit the Honor Unit application will be recognized at the LAPTA Convention.
16. Four (4) Outstanding Unit winners, one in each grade category, will be honored at the Saturday night banquet.
