REFLECTIONS PROGRAM

"Within Reach"

DEADLINE:  NOVEMBER 16, 2017

PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and encourages students to pursue artistic expression through participation in its annual arts Reflections Program.  The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition.  Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in six areas:  Dance, Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts.

For more than 40 years, the program has encouraged millions of students across the nation and in American schools overseas to create works of art.  The Reflections Program was started in 1969 by then Colorado PTA President, Mary Lou Anderson.  The National PTA sponsors a Reflections Arts Grant named in honor of Mary Lou Anderson's vision of honoring students in the arts.

Students may enter in the appropriate division:

PRIMARY:  Preschool - Grade 2

INTERMEDIATE:  Grades 3 - 5

MIDDLE / JUNIOR:  Grades 6 - 8

SENIOR:  Grades 9 - 12

SPECIAL ARTISTS:  Students with disabilities in all Grade levels.  See the Special Artist Rules for more information.

ORIGINALITY:  Each entry must be the original work of one student only.  An adult may not alter the creative integrity of a student's work.  Because the program is designed to encourage and recognize each student's individual creativity, help from an adult or collaboration with other students is not allowed.

PLAGIARISM:  is defined as taking and using another person's ideas, writings, or inventions as one's own.  Plagiarized entries will be disqualified and returned to the student.  Please refer to each Reflections Category's Rules page (listed to the right) for more information regarding plagiarism as some categories allow for the use of copywrited material.

ENTRIES:  Please follow the "Packing & Presentation" guidelines in the Category sections listed to the right.  The number of entries that can be submitted is one per student.  Entries that do not follow the guidelines or are received after the deadline will be disqualified.

JUDGING:  All National entries are judged on interpretation of the National PTA Reflections Theme, Artistic Merit, Creative Merit, and Technical Merit.  The National PTA Reflections Program makes no restrictions on content or subject matter in artwork.  Each PTA / PTSA determines its own judges for the program.  Under no condition may parents or students contact the judges to dispute the status of any entry.  All decisions of judges are final.

LOCAL UNIT PTAS:  All Local PTA Units must be a unit in "Good Standing" in order for their student entries to advance to Caddo District PTA for judging.
